Who Are We?

Christ Church is made up of more than a hundred people from a wide range of ages, backgrounds and nationalities.

Vicar & Curate

David Walker is the vicar of Christ Church. Dave moved to Christ Church in January 2011, before which he was curate at All Hallows Cheadle near Stockport. Dave trained at Oak Hill Theological College where he is now a part-time lecturer. Previously he studied zoology, and this has helped him appreciate God's wonderful creation, especially dragonflies. He also likes bikes. Dave and Sarah were married at Christ Church 20 years ago, after which they spent a year serving in mission work in Bolivia, and Sarah continues to actively share in ministry with Dave. Together Dave & Sarah have three growing children. 

Alex Williams is the curate at Christ Church. Alex was ordained in July 2024 has joined us for three years. Alex trained at Oak Hill Theological College, where he first met Dave who was one of the lecturers. Previously, he studied journalism and read the news on national radio for several years. Broadcasting grew his appreciation of Jesus being good news for people. Alex enjoys zipping up and down the West Coast mainline for playtime in the park and reading stories with his god-children, spin classes, learning the guitar and playing board games.

PCC

Our churchwardens are Mike Barkway and John Haruna, and church secretary Christine Cooper is also the deputy churchwarden. Ronnie Mathews is the church treasurer. Annie Nichols is responsible for safeguarding. Maggie Thorp leads the ministry to children & young people. Belinda & Jodie Willett are involved with the administration of the church hall. Tony Afuwape, Kelly Dimbga and Annie Nichols are also PCC members.

Ministry

The church is blessed with a range of wise preachers who help the church to dig into God’s word through their sermons, including lay readers Christine Cooper & Ian Fabray. We also often hear from students from nearby Oak Hill Theological College who are attached to Christ Church and - together with their families - play an important role in the life of the church. 

Staff

The church administrator Cathy Edwards keeps everything on track at Christ Church. Our halls are administered Babirye D'Arbela. Church technology expert Kelly Morris manages all our streams, screens, speakers and slides.
